So, what the heck is an egg fast??? Well, just what it sounds like!! You are fasting from pretty much all other foods except for eggs. I used the egg fast rules above from the fluffychixcom.com website (http://fluffychixcook.com/meal-plans/egg-fast-meal-plans/). They had a few rules to follow. Anyone who knows me knows I don't do well being told what to do!! So, of course I tweaked it!!
Here is the journal I kept while I was on the egg fast. I was able to break a plateau in my weight loss and drop quite a few pounds in a short amount of time!
Egg fast/Eggfest Day 1 completed.
Day 1 was actually pretty easy, we will have to see what I say
on day 5. I really like eggs, I am already used to smaller portions, and am
pretty sure I am in ketosis. I lost 'that taste' for the most part, so I can
only base it on making sure my carbs are in the right range.
So to test this little Eggfest/Egg fast theory, I did not want
to do anything else out of the ordinary except the eggs. I drank my normal
water (I shoot for an ounce per pound of my weight), I did not get a workout in other
than working with the calves, cleaning up the barn a little, and doing
miscellaneous yard and house chores which were not overly strenuous at all. I
did not get my full 10K steps. It was just a normal day.
I did not match the fats for each
egg. I think I did for breakfast and dinner (at least close anyway), but not at
all through out the day. I was full from the inbetween eggs, so I didn't really
have a real lunch either. Depending on who's rules you follow, some say yes and
some say no to using any whipping cream. I needed something cold/sweet
yesterday afternoon so I made a smoothie with sugar free jello and 1 tablespoon
of whipping cream. That added no carbs and maybe 60 calories so I figure I am
going to allow that!
I also could NOT eat 30 minutes
after I woke up, since my day started at 3am with a wrong number waking me up!!
I have to be awake before I eat anyway, so even this morning I am having a
couple of cups of hot tea before I start breakfast. I will try to eat at 7
which is earlier than I normally do in the summer.
OK--here are the results:
12eggs, 7 (ish) fats, 3 cheese
DOWN 3.6 pounds
7am-4 eggs fried in butter
11am-2 hard boiled eggs
1:30pm-2 hard boiled eggs and a jello smoothie
4:30-Crepes with butter and topped with SF maple syrup (4 eggs, 3oz cream cheese, 1 teaspoon stevia, and a little vanilla)
11am-2 hard boiled eggs
1:30pm-2 hard boiled eggs and a jello smoothie
4:30-Crepes with butter and topped with SF maple syrup (4 eggs, 3oz cream cheese, 1 teaspoon stevia, and a little vanilla)
I was full for the night, and
fell asleep by 8. Rules say be done eating 3 hours before going to bed.
Now, I don't know if the 3.6
pounds are true pounds, I was already up a little for the week so I think that
is a generous loss. I also could not find a maximum number of eggs for the day.
I figure if you have to eat every 3 hours that a dozen is not out of range. I
also had string cheese ready for snacks, but didn't need them.
Time to start DAY 2!! I will fill
you in tomorrow!!!
Egg fast/Eggfest Day 2 update.
Day 2 was another fairly easy day. Kept the day pretty normal again. No where near 10K steps, no real workout, but
I did go for a short -2mile- bike ride, worked on the calves again, and
actually took a nap! I did cut down the
snacks from 2 to 1 hard boiled eggs.
Wasn’t hungry for lunch again, and slept through it, so the 3 hour
snacks were enough.
I tried to add more fats, so opted for the snickerdoodle
pancakes that were full of butter. The maple syrup I have has 5 carbs. The point of the egg fast is to have no carbs
I had the crepes batter mixed, but I had put too much cinnamon in so thought I
would add another small egg to weaken that taste. They actually tasted like old fashioned
cinnamon sugar toast. They were kind of
blah though, so I did a little looking and found a cheesecake filling that I
want to try next time.
Again, the eggs are filling.
I am not hungry at all with this egg fast. There are so many different ways to prepare
eggs, I do feel like I am getting a bit of variety. However, I don’t think I would want to do
this for more than 5 days in a row, I am really craving deconstructed pizza
(mozzarella cheese, meat and a little sauce)!!
I can see, if this works, following this for most of the day, then
having something different for dinner.
Ok, Day 2 Results….
11 eggs, 6 cheese, 9 fats DOWN 1.6 today, TOTAL 5.2
8am- Cheese omelet 4 eggs, 2 oz cheddar cheese fried in
butter
11am- 1 hard boiled egg
2pm- 1 string cheese, 1 hard boiled egg, 1 smoothie
5pm- snickerdoodle crepes, 5 eggs, 3 oz cream cheese, butter
Egg fast/Eggfest Day 3 update.
Day 3 HOLY COW… I don’t know why or how, but this is
working!!! Today was another fairly easy
day. My routine was a bit off. I had to work today, so I did a lot of
sitting. Did a few chores and met some
friends out for a little while for the evening, still in bed by 10. I didn’t get a real workout it, boy my goal
of working out daily this summer is not doing well!! I don’t think I even had 8K steps. I had a ton of water today though, more than
normal.
So after those snickerdoodle pancakes the other night, I
really wanted to try the cheesecake filling with those for dinner. Really tasty, I wouldn’t use the maple
extract next time, just vanilla. I also had
a timing issue. I was home at 3, but
knew ‘dinner’ was supposed to be at 5. I
was not going to be home at that time so I opted for an early dinner at 3 and
then finished the night with a hard boiled egg later. I didn’t want to be home late for dinner, and
then be extra hungry.
Ok, Day 3 Results….
12 eggs, 9 cheese, 5 fats DOWN 1.4 pounds today, TOTAL 6.6
pounds—CRAZY!!
8am- Cheese omelet 4 eggs, 2 oz cheddar cheese fried in

2pm- 1 hard boiled egg
3pm- snickerdoodle crepes, 4 eggs, 6oz cream cheese, 1T
whipping cream
7pm-1 hard boiled egg
Eggfest/egg fast Day 4 update:
Cock-a-doodle DOOO!!
This is the craziest ‘diet’ I have ever tried that actually worked. I am not hungry at all. I have a hard time remembering to eat every 3
hours.
Well, it was a busy day around here yesterday. Between getting groceries, cleaning, mowing,
and deciding to build railings for the deck, I wore myself out!! Mowing consists of riding, not pushing, for
about 3 hours sitting in the hot sun.
The deck was about 2 hours of cutting, measuring, cussing, and attaching
the wood to build the rails. I was one
hot sweaty mess when I was done. By 6:30
I was in my recliner, in my jammies, ready for bed! I didn’t wear my fitbit, the bouncing on the
mower makes it log a lot of steps. By
the time I came in for all of the work, I was too tired to cook anything, so
just whipped up a quick omelet for dinner.
OK, day 4 results…
10 eggs, 4 cheese, 8 fat.
DOWN 1.0 pounds today, TOTAL 7.6 pounds!
HOLY… CHICKEN!! (cow just didn’t seem appropriate)
9am- omelet, 4 eggs, 2oz cheese, butter
12- 1 hard boiled egg
3:40- 1 hard boiled egg
5:40 – omelet. 4 eggs, 2 oz cheese, butter
Eggfest/Egg Fast Day 5 update:
I completed 5 days of only eggs, cheese and fat. Totally easy, filling and successful!!! I was able to break through my stall, start
losing again, and learn more about how my body reacts to foods.
Compared to day 4, day 5 was a pretty easy day. It was rainy in the morning, so spent the
morning in my recliner working on the computer.
Went in the afternoon to work calves for a while, but decided Sunday
should truly be a day of rest!! I think I had less than 5K steps for the day.
After Day 5… the results!
9 Eggs, 5 cheese, 9 fats
DOWN 0.6 pounds today,
and DOWN 8.2 TOTAL POUNDS after 5 days.
9:15- French toast puff-4 eggs, 3 cream cheese, butter and
sugar free syrup
12:20- 1 hard boiled egg
4:15- omelet, 4 eggs, 2 oz cheese, butter
4:45- smoothie 1 tablespoon whipping cream
Reflections After 5 day Egg Fast:
Well that was just absolutely crazy amazing!! I was full, satisfied and broke my
stall!!! I honestly don’t know why or
how it worked, but it did!! 8.4 Pounds
lost in 5 days is crazy!!! After losing 60 in the previous 5 months. I thought big losses were behind me.
What did I gain… freedom from tracking food. What a nice break to not have to write down
or calculate anything!! I’m not done
tracking, just had a nice break!!
Because I eat the same types of foods for the most part, I know my carbs
are always low, so I just can count calories.
I can usually keep track in my head as long as I don’t have any snacks
or desserts. Those are the days I have
to track, those are also the days I am usually OVER in calories. I learned I really need to cut down on those
days!!
I learned I need to listen to my stomach more, not my old
portion thoughts One little hard boiled
egg filled me up for hours, 4 eggs overly stuffed me. I need to know that I can cut back and it IS
enough. Before, it was NEVER enough. I liked finding out I could just have 2 eggs
and a string cheese throughout the entire day and was totally fine between
breakfast and dinner.
I also gained the knowledge that I still really want sweets,
desserts. Even though I was having
‘meals’, I was still wanting something sweet at the end. The day I didn’t have a smoothie, I felt like
I missed out! Strange. Since there weren’t sugars causing this
feeling, I guess I have some soul searching to figure out why I think I needed
it. Until I figure it out, a 50 calorie
smoothie can be my vice!
New goals… This was a nice week of reflecting on my progress
so far. So, after I have lost over 65
pounds in less than 6 months, I decided I needed to evaluate what I was doing
and set a one year goal. My next big
goal: Lose 100 pounds in 1 year!! Can I
do it, HECK YA!!!
I know a lot of people hate eggs and have
allergies, so I am sorry for that!! I wish I had other options for you, but this is all I have for now!
When they say the ‘incredible, edible egg’ they are
right!! I should be the pork rind and
egg spokewoman, geez!!
UPDATE 2 MONTHS LATER!!!
The egg fast was a game changer for me. I really learned a lot. Since then, I have lost about 5 more pounds. That is not much, but I have also had a lot more dessert days and non tracker days. Life happens!!
I have, however, incorporated more eggs into my daily meal plan. I always start my day with eggs, either egg casserole or fried, my lunch consists of hard boiled eggs and string cheese, then I eat whatever for dinner.
AGAIN, when they say 'the incredible, edible egg' they are RIGHT!!!
